“An Open Air Restaurant”

This restaurant offered a great escape from the busyness of Bandung. It's located on the outskirt of the city somewhere on the hilly side. It is quite an experience in itself just to get there, due to the narrow road leading up to the place. You have to really watch for the signs although they are easily spotted once you know what you're looking for. During the weekends this place tends to draw crowd and you will have to wait for at least 30 minutes to get a seating. But don't worry as they do the reservation professionally. You can also occupy the time by buying some of the traditional snacks offered by the place and they also provide enough place to sit.
This restaurant consists of individual huts scattered around the property. They are nicely spaced, decorated and covered to offer privacy to the occupants. The landscape is beautifully done, with lots of plants and trees and somehow they managed to include a small stream complete with a waterfall.
To get to the huts you will travel along a small path, which can get quite slippery in the wet season. There are huts up on the hills that will get you a little bit breathless when you get there. The view from some of the huts are stunning, especially those nestling on the hill side.
The only let down will be the variety of food, because for a restaurant this size they should offer more. We ended up choosing some traditional dish that we didn't really like and some side dishes. However the whole scenery and the service made up for whatever this restaurant lacks, and I would recommend this to any one who is looking for a different experience in dining. Just FYI if you are someone that doesn't like to sit cross legged while eating, this is certainly not the restaurant to go to.

The Ubud Restaurant

The Ubud by TWS & Partners
This project is a small scale of mix use building designed by TWS & Partners, with The main function is to house the famous BEBEK BENGIL restaurant from Ubud, Bali. The building is located within the heart of Jakarta, Indonesia.
TWS & Partners generate few aspects that need to be responding within the design process, such as :
- how to visualize Balinese identity (as an origin place of Bebek Bengil restaurant) and diffuse it into modern look of metropolitan city of Jakarta.
- the sympathetic way to present the commercial aspect within the heritage area.
- how to grasp the essence of place within the origin Bebek Bengil restaurant in Bali and translate it into the very limited triangular site.
The building is divided into two masses are arranged perpendicular to each other to define and divide an inner courtyard space from busyness of urban space surrounding. The skin of the first massing was assembled in a customize curtain wall that mimic look of Balinese red brick arrangement. Green color options, such as glass curtain material in response to the sky reflection to diffuse the façade with the sky, and minimize the impact on the surrounding environment.

The first massing was arranged parallel to the main road, slightly curve and elevated on top of the array of rounded columns, which will act as a buffer and transition zone. The second massing was set along the perimeter wall to generate the inner court yard into active outdoor space. The courtyard will act as an urban oasis, and design with the Balinese tropical landscape style.

There are several type of dining room experience, such as private balconies in the second storey, which overlooking to the landscape, traditional open pavilion with wooden roof, and dining hall with a view to the courtyard. The “orang tua” sculpture, located in the “center” of courtyard, will great the guest, after they enter the enclosed lobby, that act as a transition zone from the bustle atmosphere of the main road.

D' Cost Seafood Cheap Restaurant

After Warung Pasta, another cheap eating spot is D'Cost Seafood. The brand is quite famous in Indonesia and you will find them a little everywhere, including in Kemang. The outside looks terrible and is closer to a Walmart than a restaurant. But I was seduced by their motto: "Price of a street food stall, taste of a 5-stars".

The inside is a little better, but still not much to talk about as it is quite simple and functional. The menu has two pages, one for the food, the other one for the drinks. It is very cheap (click on the photo of the menu below to see the prices), and you can easily have a meal for less than Rp25,000. D'Cost seems to be quite popular with office workers and students.

We ordered a few dishes: Baby Kailan saus tiram, Ikam Guram Tim Kecap, Tahu Jepang saus tiram, Udang Pancet saus Padang, etc..

The conclusion is simple: Not good. The food is oily, not very fresh and not tasty at all. I had to put a lot of spices to manage to eat something. The only reason to come to D'Cost compared with a street food stall, usually much better in terms of quality of food, is to have the aircon, and a certain level of hygiene. If that is what you are looking for, then D'Cost is for you, but don't expect a great meal. One good thing though was their juices (strawberry and coconut-orange).

Lots of Information on their website, including the menus and some photos: http://www.dcostseafood.com/id/

Kafe Warisan Restaurant Bali

Every one agrees that the food at Kafé Warisan is excellent. Service and ambience are outstanding and it offers very good value when compared with many of the other up-market restaurants in Bali.
It’s fine international dining in a Balinese setting here in this open courtyard of frangipani trees overlooking green rice paddies. The standards, service, and menu are equally sophisticated, and with so many choices, you might have to come back to try everything. Be sure to order the raw oysters if you’re game. Kafe Warisan serves the finest cuts of meat imported from Australia, along with local venison. On the lighter side, try the grilled Tasmanian salmon or rosemary chicken breast. You’ll be treated to an extensive wine list and a range of California wines by the glass. The Menus
The food prepared with a Mediterranean touch, is the personal creation of chef Nicolas Tourneville or ” Doudou”. Doudou stamps his culinary creations with his philosophic signature: We should live to eat not eat to live!

Khaima Bali Moroccan Restaurant

Khaima is a chilled restaurant in Jalan Laksmana/Oberoi, the new ‘IN’ area of Bali. It’s one of the most well regarded restaurants in Bali and the only authentic Moroccan eatery on the island. It’s run by a Belgian/Moroccan couple.
The chill-out area features a large tent-like atmosphere. It feels like you are somewhere in a Bedouin tent or Caravansary in the middle of the desert. Here you can watch the stars (the ceiling can be slid open when good weather), have a good look at other patrons, chat with your friends or just listen to some Arabic and Oriental tunes played in the background.
Great food - exotic and delicious
For chilling out you can just order some tea and fresh white sesame or olive bread with yogurt dip, but you would miss out on the great food which is served here. The menu contains an exciting blend of moroccan dishes, all home-cooked and freshly prepared. There are all kinds of chicken, beef, lamb and vegetarian dishes; serve as well the all-time favourites like shish kebabs, falafel, couscous, humus and sweet desserts.
Special treats on weekends
Khaima Belly Dancer with umbrella stick in white/silver dressOn weekends however, mostly starting around 9pm, there is a special treat for guests and patrons - and one reason more to hang out here:
Belly Dancers will suddenly show up, dancing to arabic music around the tables, arousing the audience.
Up to 3 girls all dressed in exotic dresses in all different colours (red, silver/white and black) dance around you and move their bodies to arabic tunes and rhythms.
You feel like Sindbad in the Arabian Tales from 1001 nights and even 3 Scheherazade are dancing around and right in front of you! Anyway - isn’t it great to have a place which you would expect more in the Middle East or in Arabic countries right in the middle of Asia?

Restauran di bali

La Lucciola is perched right on the edge of the beach. An enormous open, thatch-roofed building, with dining on two levels. I always head for the upstairs section, as a nice breeze is almost inevitable. The large bamboo furniture seems to suit the place and the occasion.
Sarong-clad waiters are ready to assist. Service here is always simple and professional, attentive yet never pushy nor over-the-top. Menu knowledge is excellent, and most visits go off without any hiccups.
Excellent fruit juices and/or granita?s make a pleasant beginning for many diners, particularly during the day. Very thirst-quenching and most enjoyable.

For lunch a variety of entrees, very mixed in origin and style, often suffice for a pleasant and relaxing meal. A pair of King Prawns with thin chips of Sweet Potato stuck all over them.
If there’s a see-and-be-seen spot among the Kuta crowd, it’s La Lucciola. Even breakfast draws the beautiful people, and why not, with its prime beachfront location on this deserted stretch of Legian? Morning eye-poppers include tasty ricotta hotcakes and smoked-salmon scrambled eggs on toasted focaccia. The dinner menu is equally enticing, with choice offerings such as lemongrass bok-choy risotto with sesame ginger, or oven-baked snapper with braised shallots and oregano. The seafood specials, calamari, and a unique prawn-and-snapper pie are tops, in addition to a complement of good pasta and traditional Italian fare. End with a bracing espresso and tiramisu.
